IAM – Istituto di Architettura Montana was born for the first time at the Castello del
Valentino, home of the architecture faculty of Turin, following the architecture conferences of Bardonecchia in the 1950s, thanks to the opera
of figures such asCarlo Mollino, Roberto Gabetti, Franco Albini and Paolo Ceresa.

IAM – Istituto di Architettura Montana was born

Since 2009, IAM has been a research center of the Department of Architecture and Design (DAD) at Politecnico di Torino born in order to enhance and promote research on the subject of architecture, design and alpine landscape. The objectives of IAM are:
PROMOTION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF RESEARCH
the promotion and implementation of basic and applied research in the fields of design, architecture, history, restoration, recovery, design, technology and material culture focused on the Alpine space and mountain.
SUPPORT OF LOCAL COMMUNITIES
the support of local communities in the development of research and projects aimed at local development and the conscious transformation of the mountain territory with the aim of facilitating its sustainable development.
FORMATION OF RESEARCH NETWORKS
the formation of research networks with local and international bodies and actors on the topic of mountain places.
VALORISATION AND DISSEMINATION OF CULTURES
the valorization and dissemination of architectural and technical cultures whose aim is the qualification and development of the mountains.
EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES
the development of educational activities in close connection with research, and focusing on mountain places, landscapes and environments.
